Live Streaming of World Class Ballet on October 1st

While browsing Twitter this evening, I stumbled upon the information on World Ballet Day, coming up on October 1st.

Five ballet companies will stream throughout the day, whether it be rehearsals or interviews. The companies include:

• Royal Ballet
• National Ballet of Canada
• Australian Ballet
• San Francisco Ballet
• Bolshoi Ballet

Technology and the Performing Arts – Live Stream Project at The University of Iowa Department of Dance

In 2011, the Department of Dance at The University of Iowa was awarded with the College of Liberal Arts Student Technology Fee to support the “Technology and the Performing Arts” project. This project started with Associate Professor Eloy Barragán and Professor George De La Peña, Chair of the Department of Dance, collaborating for the establishment of the Live Stream Program with the intent to transmit the various performances produced in the department.

 

Since then, this initiative has helped to broadcast concerts to a large community outside Iowa, nationally and internationally.  Dance audiences  have been able to enjoy some of the most important performances in the department such as: Dance Gala, Dancers In Company, Faculty/Graduate Concerts and Thesis Concerts.  In addition, it has made possible for the students in the department to virtually interact in the classroom with professionals from locations such as,  New York City, Mazatlan and Puebla, Mexico.
